Black Stone from the Sun return with explosive new single 'Superficial Jesters'

Formed in Perth, Western Australia, Black Stone from the Sun are a dynamic duo delivering an unfiltered brand of garage grunge. Known for their raw energy and gritty guitar-driven sound, the pair are back with their new single, Superficial Jesters, a track that promises a darker lyrical depth paired with the band’s signature heavy sound, offering a fresh perspective that pushes their artistry to new heights - out 14 February. 

Citing influences like Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age, and The Love Junkies, Black Stone from the Sun has built a reputation for having a captivating sound and commanding stage presence – their career boasting notable milestones, including supporting Birds of Tokyo and Karnivool, four national tours, and the release of their acclaimed debut album Dreamalysis.

Superficial Jesters was brought to life by bandmates Sean Mackay (vocals and guitar) and Jack Nelson (drums and vocals) at Perth’s legendary Blackbird Studios, with Mitch McDonald (of The Love Junkies) helming production. Simon Struthers from Forensic Audio added the final polish through mastering, creating, overall, a sonically compelling track that captures the band’s essence while exploring fresh creative terrain. Reflecting on the recording process, Sean describes it as “the most productive and enjoyable sessions we'd ever done” achieving the track’s full potential in just a day and a half.

“Superficial Jesters comes from the idea of 'what is it that defines you'. Are we just vessels for our concepts and beliefs or is it our own self-perception that makes us who we are?” shares Sean. The track’s searing riffs, thundering rhythm, and soaring vocal melodies create a visceral soundscape that underscores the weight of these themes, showcasing the duo’s ability to blend introspection with raw sonic power. 

Fans can experience the new single live at their launch show on Friday the 28 February at Mojos Bar in Fremantle, an event that promises the same fierce energy and authenticity that have solidified Black Stone from the Sun’s place in the Australian music scene.
