Butter celebrate love in all its forms with 'Baby I'm in Love' ft. 1800 Sleep

Genre-blurring neo-soul collective Butter continues to push boundaries and win hearts, kicking off the year with their latest heartfelt single, Baby I’m In Love ft. 1800 Sleep, a track that invites listeners to appreciate and revel in the many shapes and shades of love surrounding us - available via streaming 8 February. 

Butter’s journey (so far) includes some incredible milestones, from being selected to play at Falls Festival and Bigsound in 2019 to supporting the legendary Asha Puthli and performing at RTRFM’s In the Pines in 2024. Their fearless approach to genre and boundary-pushing creativity has earned them a devoted following and critical acclaim; Claire Mooney, Triple J, reviewing a previous release with: “You do this super well. So stoked we're spotlighting this track all this week on Unearthed radio” and X-Press reviewing Butter as “a dynamic band that impress a lot of people with their style and charm”.

Baby I’m In Love draws influence from an eclectic mix of artists and genres. Inspirations like Dijon, Jungle, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, and Pale Jay shine through, while broader musical touchstones include Nick Cave, MF DOOM, Frank Ocean, Show Me the Body, and Andy Shauf. The result is a track as dynamic as it is intimate, rooted in Butter’s unmistakably smooth sound.

Reflecting on the creative process behind the song, lead vocalist Lachlan Payet shares, “The recording process really captured our energy as a live band. A relaxed studio environment helped us to feel comfortable and brave with the creative choices made. I feel it’s the most Butter thing we’ve ever made as our personality and humour really shines through in the absolute sweetest way possible!”

The song features stunning contributions from Lachlan Payet and Sasha Britto – Main Vocals, Kye Murray – Drums/Percussion, Guitar, Will Rs – Piano, Trombone, Trumpet, and Jacob McAneny – Bass, Guitar, Glockenspiel, Backing Vocals. Recorded and produced by Payet, the track has additional mixing and production by Dan Carrol at Rada Studios (The Floors, Timothy Nelson, Demon Days, Southern River Band) and was mastered by the Grammy-award-winning King Willy Sound. 

They will be celebrating the release of Baby I’m In Love with a launch on Friday, 14 February, at Mills Records, Fremantle – a FREE ENTRY show.
