West Australian-based artist Dylan Ollivierre is an award-winning songwriter, producer, and musician, described by Neil Finn (Crowded House) as “a great songwriter”. Making up one half of The Money War, in addition to having songwriting/ production credits for the likes of Grentperez, Meg Mac, Great Gable, Siobhan Cotchin, Tia Gostelow, Holy Holy, Joan and the Giants, and Jae Laffer (The Panics), he debuts his solo project with the release of personal country-infused track It’s Just a Shame.

With over 10 WAM (West Australian Music) ‘Song of the Year Award’ wins, ARIA placements, two Triple J feature albums and a dozen playlist additions, a nomination for the Australian Music Prize, and over 20 Million streams on his work (on Spotify alone), Ollivierre’s talent, skill, and work ethic has seen him turn music into a full-time career. Predominantly writing and producing for other artists, he’s found that there are certain songs that surface sometimes that are just too personal for anyone but himself to share. Elaborating, “The process of making these songs was as much for my own clarity and healing as it was about creating a song”.

Influenced by the likes of Blake Mills, The Avett Brothers, and Bonny Light Horsemen, Dylan Ollivierre’s sound is centred in the singer-songwriter genre, with elements of country, folk, and pop. Taking inspiration from life events and stories around him, It’s Just a Shame “was the first of a bunch of songs I recorded for an upcoming solo album.” shares Dylan, continuing, “The chorus just bubbled up one day when I was noodling on the guitar. It felt very personal, and I knew I had to go down the well myself to find the rest of the song and bring it to life”.

Sonically rich in textures, from its crisp drums, driving bass, floating synths, and rumbling guitars to layered anthemic vocal harmonies, It’s Just a Shame has a lush backdrop in which Olliverre’s lead vocals can stand boldly in front of. Emotionally charged, and beautifully articulated, lyrics such as the chorus “You told me how to walk then you walked away, See it in my eyes I want you to stay, Leave cos you know I’ll take you back again, I’m not angry anymore, no it’s just a shame” make it clear why the song had to come from Dylan himself.

With the exception of Jack Hill on drums, Carmen Pepper on backing vocals, and mastering by Calvin Bennett, It’s Just a Shame was written, performed, recorded, produced, and mixed by Dylan Ollivierre, sharing “I wanted the production to be all about highlighting the song itself so did my best to stay out of the way and let the song come through”.

Accompanying the release will be a stunning video clip set for release August 13
