Gigging all over Boorloo/ Perth over the past few years, including making it to the semi finals of two ‘Battle of the Bands’ competitions, and a recent Top 20 nomination in the WAM (West Australian Music) Song of The Year, Red Temples reveal the release of their highly anticipated debut single, an indie-rock number titled; Medicine Man.

Comprised of good friends Jim Churchill on vocals and guitar (previously toured and performed at the Big Day Out with his band The Egg), Chris Ellis on guitar (formerly in bands Damien’s Trick, Afraid Of Flying, The Darlings and Honeywheeler), Paul Dean on bass, Seath Churton on drums (formerly in New Zealand bands Vent and Static Mine), and Phil Berrick on keys (AKA renowned DJ, Philly Blunt) Red Temples have a strong focus on collaboration, sharing that “through jamming, laughing, arguing ideas are worked and bent into a song structure, whilst trying to preserve that initial spark that the song came from”

Influenced by bands like Powderfinger, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Incubus, Hunters and Collectors, and Pearl Jam, Medicine Man is a strong debut release capturing this collaborative spirit and close knit chemistry, “The song reflects our evolution playing in this band together over the past three years. Our sound has evolved, our playing is more together and there’s a strong bond and connection that has grown between us from being together each week jamming and sharing this love of music.” explains Red Temples.

An uplifting anthem about new beginnings, described by the band themselves as being about “a chance encounter one day that takes you by the hand and changes how you see everything. And then discovering new meaning in all the things that are right in front of you”, the track starts out minimal with strums from an acoustic guitar, atmospheric riffs from an electric guitar, and earnest vocals, before steadily building with the introduction of bass, drums, organ, additional percussion, and group backing vocals to its catchy, all-out chorus.

Recorded by Paul Francis Wood “woody” (Red Jezebel, The Ghost Hotel, Good News Now We Can All Eat The Vampires) at Tiny Music Studio, and mastered by Grammy Award Winning mastering engineer William Bowden (Kylie Minogue, The Living End) at King Willy Sound, the band explain  “It was great fun to work with Paul, to share what we were hearing and also to get his perspective into the production of the track.“ continuing  “We have been playing the song for a while and it’s a regular in our live set. In the studio we were keen to capture the soul of the song from the acoustic and vocal and to colour the sound of the track and bring depth with interesting guitar, bass, organ and drum parts. The song moves through a few different moods and I think we were able to find a great energy in the studio to bring that out.”

The release of Medicine Man will be celebrated with a release Party at Old Habits Bar, Saturday June 15, 2024. More information can be found at https://redtemples.band/
