Wielding a magnetic stage presence and a sound that’s equal parts disco, pop shimmer and retro swagger, electrifying Minang Noongar artist out of Perth, Western Australia, Ricky Neil Jr. turns up the heat in new single SUPANOVA - out 19 June.
A longtime fan-favourite at live shows, SUPANOVA explodes with pulsing synths, grooved-out rhythm, and a chorus made for dancefloors. “It’s about embracing carelessness and giving in to temptation,” shares frontman Ricky Neil Jr, continuing, “It was created during a strange situation-ship period in my life, and I needed to release that tension. So after one too many “U up?” Texts, the chorus stuck with me until I shared it with the group.”
Co-written with bandmates and friends: Timothy Sunassee (bass), Angus Moir (guitar), Charlotte Butler and Isaiah Quintana (drums), SUPANOVA has become a defining piece in shaping Ricky Neil Jr’s sonic identity.
Produced, mixed and mastered by long-time collaborator Calvin Bennett, the single offers listeners a polished, seductive earworm drenched in late-night energy - “the grooviest, sexiest, text-your-ex-iest version” of a song fans have been screaming for.
The release follows a massive run of milestones for Ricky Neil Jr., including electrifying appearances at Hyper Festival 2025, Nannup Music Festival 2024, WA Day Festival 2024, and Channel 7's Telethon; and support slots for Playlunch, Donny Benét, and South Summit. Kicking off 2025 with a regional WA headline tour off the back of two recent sold-out headline shows in Perth has further cemented the group’s place as one of WA’s most exciting emerging artists.
SUPANOVA marks a bold new chapter for Ricky Neil Jr., merging powerhouse vocals and magnetic energy with slick production and unapologetic storytelling. Ricky channels lived experience into a sound that’s as emotionally charged as it is danceable, redefining what it means to bring charisma and catharsis to the pop landscape.
You can catch Ricky Neil Jr. live Friday 4 July for Cactus Club at El Grotto, Scarborough – more info here. And Saturday 2 August for BLOOM Festival at The Bird, Northbridge – more info here.
