Sam Jane releases debut single 'Drive Away Summer'

Singer, songwriter, and multi instrumentalist Sam Jane announces the release of her ethereal and emotional indie-folk single Drive Away Summer, the first ever release from the artist and a delightful taste of her upcoming album GIRL FOLK.

Having spent the last six years performing solo and as the front-woman in bands Sam Jane & The Flowers and Zorah, Sam Jane is a familiar face and cherished voice in the Boorloo/ Perth music community, playing many a venue alongside the likes of Lo, King Ibis, Jocelyn’s Baby, and Dolce Blue, to name a few. 

Rooted in rhythmic strums and trilling plucks from acoustic guitars, Drive Away Summer see’s Sam Jane’s charismatic voice paint a vivid scene of love when it’s difficult, love when it’s detrimental, and the realisation that the best thing to do is save yourself and to get away, the relief from it all exclaimed with lyrics such as “I’m back to my body, back to my soul”.

On the release Sam shares “I wrote this a few years back when I was classically in love, like I always am – I used to feel no rest in Summer, I had a dislike for my body and a problem with loneliness. I would surround myself with people who didn’t necessarily care for me, but at least I wasn’t alone – So I wrote this song for my self empowerment. An ode to those insecurities you feel while growing up, that you are allowed to take up space, you are allowed to walk away and you will find what’s made for you.”

Giving her ever expanding live audience a long awaited debut release, Sam shares that “I’m really grateful for all the help to get my tunes out, I struggled for a long time with nerves about recording and releasing my music. Can’t wait to show y’all what I got”, accrediting a lot of this newly found confidence to engineer/ producer Michael Strong at You’re Weird Mixing (Pat Chow, Odlaw, Dolce Blue, Stacey Ann) who recorded, mixed and mastered Drive Away Summer alongside the other tracks on the LP. 

Titled GIRL FOLK the album is set for release in October, but fans can most definitely expect a few more delights lifted from it in the meantime. 

The single is accompanied by artwork that was hand drawn by Sam herself, depicting her trusty getaway ‘Subaru’ car, and the electric fan mentioned in the song's lyrics, blowing back the hair of a self portrait grinning in the corner.
