Hailing from Boorloo/ Perth, self-proclaimed progenitors of the ‘antisocial-pop’ genre Teen Angst channel the domesticity of everyday life, sharing lo-fi nostalgic tunes
inundated with references to The X-Files, avoiding high school reunions, and forgetting to
text your mates. The band unveil their latest gloomy yet dreamy indie-pop track wuwu - out today.
Paying homage to the days of classic instant messaging (like msn), wuwu being an abbreviation for 'what's up with you', the track lyrically "explores the disconnect we feel as adults. Where, as we get older we seem to communicate with people less and as a result lose the friendships we once had" shares the band. Set to multiple layers of jangly guitars and atmospheric dial-up internet sounds, driven by a laid-back beat and a flowing bass line, and topped off with melancholic heartfelt vocals that feel as if they are getting more and more interwoven into a computer mainframe as the track progresses, Teen Angst showcase their ability to compose an evolving track that keeps true to it's original, intended vibe, beautifully partnering lyrics and instrumentation to convey their message and it's accompanying emotions.
Recorded and mixed by Rhien Tan (Gap Year, Segue, Shy Panther) at Cue Sound and
mastered by Dan O’Connor (Jocelyn’s Baby, Heathcote Blue, Nika Mo) at Encoder Sound, the track features core band members Michelle Yeong on vocals, guitar, and synth, Connor Patmore on guitar, Darcy St Jack on bass and Fraser Patmore on drums.
Catch Teen Angst live on 20 December at The Buffalo Club, Walyalup/ Fremantle - more info available here.
