Beloved Australian country trio The Holy Smoke (Karlee Rae, Delilah Rose and Rose Parker) have announced their sophomore (and final) release; In the Clear Light of Day, a 5 track EP that showcases the group's timeless vocal harmonies, effortless togetherness, and knack for getting to the heart of the human experience.
Forming in 2016, the all-star trio of consummate singer/songwriters has garnered a reputation for its down-to-earth and intimate live performances. With Parker’s powerful husky vocal timbre providing a bedrock for the soaring heights of Rae and the bluesy 70s inflections of Rose, theirs is a combination of voices as good as any. Coupled with classic acoustic instrumentation and uplifting hooks, their tightly spun songs and joyful performances have seen them performing at folk festivals across the country, as well as becoming firm local favourites.
In the Clear Light of Day is, according to the group, all about “secret women’s business”. It tackles themes of belonging, transformation, imposter syndrome, standing up, and then having a little lie down. There are nods to spirituality with This Little Light, and the women who raised them My Mama. Recorded mostly live (and sometimes through a shared mic), the EP captures what this group is all about: the sheer delight of shared joy.
Recorded at RADA Studios (Katy Steele, Great Gable, Timothy Nelson, Abbe May), engineered by Matt Gio, mixed by Em Burrows (Web Rumors), arranged and performed by The Holy Smoke, and mastered by Jeff McCormack (Kasey Chambers, Troy Casser-Daly), In the Clear Light of Day was created whilst the members of The Holy Smoke were in Boorloo/ Perth, however, they now find themselves living at opposite ends of the country. For now, this will be their final release as a trio, although they never say never…
The Holy Smoke’s sophomore EP In The Clear Light of Day is out now.
