Acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Timothy Nelson is known for his genre-blending music that fuses pop, folk, and rock elements with heartfelt lyricism and incredibly catchy melodies. A versatile musician, Nelson has been a key figure in the Boorloo/ Perth music scene for years, both as a solo artist and as part of bands like Timothy Nelson & The Infidels. With the release of his highly anticipated album Debaser Tapes on the horizon (27 November), he unveils his latest soaring single Seasons Pass

Following on from most recent singles Greenmount Hill, a nostalgic ode to the Perth Hills area, and ‘Summer of yes’ fever dream Hold Your Hair, Nelson continues to transport listeners to new places with Seasons Pass

The final single to come from his upcoming album Debaser Tapes, Seasons Pass is a warm ray of sunshine on a cloudy day, with the upbeat strums of an acoustic guitar, the grounding hammers of a piano, and the soothing tone of Timothy’s voice delivering euphoric harmonies and sound, optimistic advice lyrically, ‘Everybody, if you’re begging for another chance, Never worry, just hold on tight, ‘cause the seasons pass”.

One of the last songs to be finished on the album, yet also the first to have been written Nelson shares “The bones of this song popped into my head years ago, in 2016 I think… I was crashing a friends couch in Los Angeles, and I was playing my guitar in the backyard one morning… I had the first couple lines about ‘the sun tends to be shy, but not today’ and a melody for the chorus but I didn’t get around to writing the proper lyrics for years.”

Continuing, “It’s been through a few different versions… I think once I realised it was going to be this very general, hopeful message of ‘don’t worry, just stick it out’ I probably psyched myself out and it became a bit of a balance to write something that wasn’t too cheesy in my mind. It became too delicate to rush once I kind of figured out what I wanted it to be. We played the song live a lot, and it became a bit of favourite I think but I kept feeling like the lyrics weren’t quite right. I think I probably re-wrote the entire song about two of three times. We re-produced it from scratch too after having another version in the can for a couple years. Andy (Lawson, co-producer) was laughing at the end because I was saying “this is my favourite song on the album” and he was like “you hated it a year ago!”.

Recorded with Andy Lawson at Debaser Studios (Eskimo Joe, Little Birdy, Foam), the wait for Debaser Tapes is almost over, with the full 10-track LP set for release on 27 November. In the meantime, fans can expect some incredible and intimate live clips over on Timothy Nelson’s YouTube channel
